Infection prevention and control is important for all industries requiring sterile environments for product development, food preparation, manufacturing and healthcare. De Montfort University’s (DMU) Pharmaceutical Technologies group has significant microbiology expertise to resolve industrial based problems and assist research and development, while ensuring companies meet with legislation, safety standards and routine monitoring.

Key Strengths:

  • The development and use of novel antimicrobials  to solve Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs) including MRSA.   
  • The assessment of transmission routes of HCAIs in the NHS, especially clinical waste and laundry, or in transportation methods, such as aeroplanes.
  • Infection control- examining the whole spectrum of infection development, prevention and control
  • Antimicrobials, disinfectants and sterilisation - examining the efficiency of products, design and development of improved products covering extensive areas of infection and bacteria control including personal cleansing products cleaning solutions.
  • Surface plasmon resonance imaging is a tool which can be used in the formulation of a portal device to enable medical diagnostics at the point of care both on and off site, reduce the need for hospital care.
  • Biocompatible materials - surface analysis and modification in the development of medical implant materials for improved product performance, longevity, infection prevention and post surgery health related problems.   
  • Food safety assessment to ensure comliance to legilation.
