Social Aspects of Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia
Simon Dyson is a sociologist interested in all social aspects of the inherited blood disorders sickle cell anaemia and beta-thalassaemia. As such his research interests cut across many areas of sociology, including the sociologies of health & medicine; genetics; ‘race’ and ethnicity; disability; and the professions. He is also interested in the respective contributions of social theory and participatory research methodologies to the issues of sickle cell and thalassaemia. He has worked for over 20 years with voluntary support groups for both sickle cell and thalassaemia.
