Module Characteristics The second theme is to consider drug delivery in practice, mostly by consideration of delivery of various routes of administration (e.g. transdermal, nasal, pulmonary), but also by less common areas of study such as radiopharmaceuticals and veterinary formulations. The theory and practice of controlled drug delivery is supported by the evaluation of drug delivery systems through bioavailability / bioequivalence studies. On the manufacturing side, this module studies at a greater depth than preceding modules (PHCO1301, PHCO1303 and PHCO2303) aspects of the manufacture and packaging of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. It covers, in particular, scale up and large scale manufacture. Various other elements extend directly the knowledge form previous modules ( eg particle size analysis, granulation, drying, tableting and encapsulation, and packaging) and also introduce new areas (eg air conditioning, computer control of industrial processes, crystallisation, film coating). |
