Mary Seacole Research Centre

Mary S Building

The Mary Seacle Research Centre (MSRC) is based at the Charles Frears Campus, the Centre works closely with staff in all departments of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and others across the University with an interest in issues of race and ethnicity in health and social care.

Particular research concerns include:

  • care planning in a multi-ethnic NHS
  • employment opportunities and career development of black and minority ethnic staff
  • specific ethnic health care needs.

Collaborative working with practitioners in health and welfare service agencies and community groups is seen as a priority, to ensure active dissemination and implementation of research findings.

Our research has been commissioned by:

  • Alcohol Education and Research Commission
  • Arthritis Research Campaign, the Departments of Health (for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland)
  • Housing Corporation, European Commission
  • Charitable groups such as Thomas Pocklington Trust and worked with various local community-based agencies.

We have taken on many different projects and working papers. We have also produced Infertility and British South Asian communities – information leaflets
