Mentorship whilst on placement

Mentors

This section of the website is for mentors or for those want to train as a mentor for nursing and midwifery students.

The School believes that the relationship between mentors and students makes a significant difference to students’ experience in practice settings.

In light of this we have developed a Mentor Information Packs, for pre-registration students and learning beyond registration (LBR) students, which is designed to give you an overview of your role as a mentor to our nursing and midwifery students.

Mentorship Training

All healthcare learners in practice whether they be pre or post registration need to be mentored by a qualified practitioner particularly if studying for a professional registration or qualification. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or are required to develop your skills in this area as part of your professional development then these are the modules for you.

Aimed at nurses, midwives and allied health professionals, students will be learning together and applying to their practice: teaching methods and learning theories; supporting learners and peers; presentation skills; assessment; and professional specific mentoring standards.

Successful completion of either of these module by nurses will contribute to the requirements of the NMC Approved Mentor Preparation Outcomes (NMC, 2008)
