Social Work and Health Studies

A diverse range of programmes

The Social Work & Health Studies Division offers a range of academic courses with vocational relevance. We have study options for those without recognised academic qualifications and those wishing to study at post-graduate level.

The range of qualifications spans from Foundation and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) degrees to Post-graduate Certificate, Post-graduate Diploma and Masters degrees.

Our social work degree programme provides a combination of academic study and practice placements leading to a professional qualification in social work.

The health studies degree programme provides core and optional courses in a variety of contemporary health and social care subjects. For qualified social workers we have the Post-Qualifying Specialist Award for those working with adults. For those wishing to develop their health expertise we have the MA in Applied Health Studies.

Our staff have a wealth of teaching and research experience in the field of health and social care. The vocational backgrounds of staff include social work, youth work, medical sociology, health promotion, public sector administration, speech and language therapy, counselling and health management. Research interests among staff are varied and there is an active research programme in the Division.
