National Student Survey
At DMU we pride ourselves with providing our final year students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to take the next steps towards realising their career goals. We’re also committed to providing you with the best possible student experience, creating the ideal environment to help you succeed.
That's why your feedback via the annual National Student Survey (NSS) is important to us. It highlights many of the positive aspects of studying at DMU as well as indicating any opportunities there may be to improve the quality of teaching and the overall student learning experience. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to complete the survey, as we value and welcome your feedback.

The NSS and final year students
By completing the NSS, you are taking advantage of an important opportunity to reflect on your time at DMU and to provide feedback to academic and support staff across the faculties. It’s a chance to express what you liked about your course, the teaching and the student experience in general. It’s also an opportunity for you to comment if you think there is room for improvement.
The NSS is commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and is conducted by an independent body, Ipsos-Mori, which ensures that all answers remain anonymous.
The survey consists of questions grouped into a number of categories covering:
- Assessment and feedback
- Academic support
- Organisation and management
- Learning resources
- Learning community
- Student voice
- Overall satisfaction
There is also space at the end for free text comments.
The results are published as Key Information Sets (KIS) on university websites, on a national website and on the UCAS course search tool.
Personal tutoring and student support
DMU provides all undergraduate students with a personal tutor. Your personal tutor provides you with advice, guidance and support. This is through staff surgery hours, guidance through Blackboard sites, responses to emails and one-to-one meetings which are all part of our provision to support you throughout your studies. Student guidance is also provided from others at DMU, such as your module tutors, dissertation supervisor, faculty advice centre staff and even in the library and Centre for Learning and Student Support.
We listen to you
The feedback our final year students provide enables us to make improvements across campus that enhance the overall student experience for current students. Improvements such as:
- Extended opening of the library 24/7 and 365 days a year other than in exceptional circumstances
- Electronic submission of all student Dissertations
- Up to £1million investment in DMUsport
Your opinion matters!
Your opinion matters because it helps us to continue to deliver on the aspects of university life you enjoyed and improve on any you didn’t like, enabling us to develop the student experience further.
