Further Education funding

Further Education Learner Support Fund

Only students enrolled on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at DMU can apply to this Fund.

The Further Education Learner Support Fund can help (if eligible) with a contribution towards:

16-19* years old (*you must be under 19 on 31st August 2017):

  • Accommodation costs (if you have moved away from home to do your course)

19 years old:

  • Books and equipment
  • Travel costs
  • Accommodation costs (if you have moved away from home to do your course)

20 years old (and over):

  • Books and equipment
  • Childcare costs
  • Travel costs
  • Accommodation costs (if you have moved away from home to do your course)

Application forms for 2017/18 are available from the Student Gateway main reception on the ground floor of Gateway House from 1st September 2017.

16-19 Bursary Fund

This Fund is aimed at students who are facing genuine financial difficulties.

  • You need to be aged 16-19 years old (and under 19 years old on 31st August 2017)
  • Or aged 19 or over on 31st August 2017 and subject to an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), or continuing on the same study programme started aged 16-18
  • If your household income is £31,000 per year or more, you are unlikely to receive an award
  • If successful, we expect that contributions will assist towards the cost of books/equipment; trips and transport to attend open days; subsistence
  • Attendance (monitored throughout the year) must be 80 per cent or above to receive a payment
  • If an award is made it will be paid to you in instalments in November, February and April. If you have not met the attendance criteria, the instalment will not be paid.

Advanced Learner Loan

You may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your tuition fees if you are:

  • Aged 19+ on the first day of Year 1 of your course
  • A 'home' student (lived in the UK for three years or more prior to the start of your course).

It is non means-tested and no credit check takes place.

  • The UK Provider Reference Number is: 10001883
  • A 'Learning Funding Information Letter' can be obtained from Faculty Admissions
  • Repayments start in the April after your course ends but only if you are earning £21,000 or more.

Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund

Please note that the availability of this Fund is dependent upon the university receiving adequate funds from the Skills Funding Agency. 

  • Applicants must be in receipt of the Advanced Learner Loan (see above)
  • This Fund can contribute towards specific learning support, accommodation, childcare and travel costs
  • It can also contribute towards accomodation costs (if you have moved away from home to study).
