DMU welcomes you to come and say hello in The Chaplaincy’s new home in the Portland building.
The Chaplaincy is for staff and students of all faiths and none, a relaxing space on campus where you can go to make yourself a tea or coffee, to arrange a chat with a chaplain, or find out more about our events.

You can find The Chaplaincy at the rear entrance of the Portland building, off Newarke Close. The new Portland location has a variety of spaces, such as The Chapel, where staff and students can pray or be prayed for, and the Breathing Space, a serene space for reflection, contemplation, meditation and quiet time.
The Prayer Room is there too, along with convenient washing facilities for ablutions. We also have the Sharing Space, a peaceful lounge and chill-out area where you can make a cup of tea, relax and get some quiet time.
We recently welcomed international students to the new space, where they were encouraged to put a dot on where they had come from on our map of the world.
The Chaplaincy is open from 10.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays during term-time. The team can also be reached by email at email@example.com.
To kick off the new term and welcome you into the new space, we will be hosting several events at lunchtimes during term time, open to staff and students of all faiths and none. These include:
- Meet-up-Monday: A friendly lunchtime event – drop into The Chaplaincy for a free bowl of hot vegetarian soup and a roll. Every Monday, 12.15-1.45pm.
- Get Creative: An opportunity to try out origami, card-making, ribbon art and more during lunch-time. All materials are provided by The Chaplaincy. Every Tuesday, 12.30-1.30pm.
- Wednesday Worship, every Wednesday, 1.15-1.45pm. This week (5 October) it will be a half-hour Church of England service called Express Communion, an interactive way for Christian staff and students to express their faith.
- TGI Friday: A chance to reflect on the week behind you and weekend ahead in a peaceful and relaxing environment. Every Friday, 12.15-12.45pm.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
