Access to Work
If your disability (e.g. speech impairment, learning disability, diabetes or cancer) has put obstacles in the way of you carrying out your day to day activities and your duties at work, Access to Work may be able to provide funding to:
- Adapt or provide new equipment you need at work
- Adapt your working environment to meet your needs
- Support your journey to work (may include personal support worker for journey to and from work)
- Have the support of a communicator/interpreter
Access to Work is a programme run by the Department of Work and Pensions and provides support to disabled people to help them overcome work related obstacles resulting from their disability, if this is likely to last for 12 months or longer.
The University may receive funding from the Access to Work scheme towards making reasonable adjustments for you.
As the applicant, you would need to make the initial contact with Access to Work to inform them of your personal details, after making the initial contact they will then send you an application form to complete and sign. Although Access to Work requires you to make contact with them, you are encourage to discuss your application with your Line Manager and HR Adviser as they will be able to provide support throughout the process, whether that be assistance with the first phone call, completing the application form, or deciding on adjustments that will best suit your needs.
