Give flu the jab this winter

Do you regularly suffer with flu each autumn and winter? Or do you want to avoid the risk of getting sick?

As part of our commitment to your wellbeing, People and Organisational Development (POD) are offering flu jabs on campus for a reduced rate to make sure you stay fighting fit and prevent the virus spreading to colleagues, family or friends.

How do I sign up?

Morningrise Healthcare, a qualified provider of flu jabs, will be setting up a clinic in the Eric Wood Building on Monday 9 October between 10am and noon. The cost of the vaccine is £9, which is cheaper than most pharmacies and supermarkets (people in certain high risk groups may be able to get a free NHS flu jab, check here for eligibility).

Although the flu jab takes no longer than five minutes, we’ll need you to stay a further ten minutes to ensure there’s no adverse reaction (this is very rare). All you need to do is email us at by 30 September and we’ll be in touch to give you a slot.

Flu is a contagious virus and can be passed through coughing, sneezing or by touching infected surfaces or people. So it’s really important that good hygiene is practised by all. Here are some top tips to help you:

  • Make sure you wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water
  • Clean surfaces such as your keyboard, telephone and door handles regularly to get rid of germs
  • Use tissues to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • Put used tissues in a bin as soon as possible

Take advantage of this great wellbeing offer and give flu the jab this autumn and winter!
