DMU and Leicester Jazz House are delighted to announce the start of our live jazz programme featuring six internationally-renowned artists performing at The Venue@DMU.
DMU has teamed up with Leicester Jazz House to establish a series of regular performances on campus and a coaching programme for the new DMU Jazz Ensemble, which includes professional musicians from Leicester Jazz House. The organisation stages modern jazz concerts across the city.
Friday 21 October 2016 at 8pm – Celebrated British-Asian Jazz Clarinettist, Arun Ghosh
Arun has previously won ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, has been a Musician-in-Residence in Wuhan, China, and performed at the Cultural Olympiad as part of the celebrations for the 2012 London Olympics. His musical vocabulary and vision reflects his rich geographical heritage, combining the spirit and language of jazz, with the sounds and styles of Indian classical and folk, hip-hop and rock.
Friday 11 November 2016 at 8pm – Jeff Williams Quintet
The celebrated Ohio-born drummer has a CV that includes playing with Stan Getz, Michel Petrucciani, Dave Liebman and Lee Konitz splits his time between New York and London, and is a tutor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at Birmingham Conservatoire. The quintet features some of the finest and most celebrated musicians on the UK Jazz scene including Kit Downes (Piano), Josh Arcoleo (Tenor Sax), Phil Robson (Guitar) and Sam Lasserson (Bass).
