There are many possibilities for joining DMU Music, either by joining our ensembles, doing an internship with our office or volunteering at our events. Please see below for all our current opportunities, auditions and vacancies.

 

Join the Chorus in our Summer Concert Challenge

We're inviting everyone who loves to sing to join the DMU Chorus for our Summer concert on the 10th of June. In the wonderful surroundings of the Grand Hall at St. Martin's House (next to Leicester Cathedral) the Chorus will joining with the DMU Orchestra to sing Handel's 'Zadok the Priest' (the DMU Graduation Anthem), followed by the monumental 'I Was Glad' by Hubert Parry.

Ahead of the concert, Will Welsford, DMU Chamber Choir Musical Director, will be leading a short programme of rehearsals as follows:

- Thursday 22 March, 18:00 - 20:30 (initial score hand out and sing through)
- Monday 30 April, 18:30 - 21:00
- Saturday 12 May, 10:00 - 12:30
- Sunday 20 May, 18:30 - 21:00
- Friday 8 June, 18:30 - 21:00
- Sunday 10 June, 12:00 - 13:30
- Sunday 10 June, 15:00 - 17:00 (concert)

Join the Orchestra in our Summer Concert Challenge

This 6th of June, the DMU Orchestra will bring you another epic Summer Concert! Conducted by renowned violinist and composer Adrian Varela of the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra will team up with the DMU Chorus to present a unique, fresh and exceptional concert to the beautiful Grand Hall of St. Martin's House in Leicester.

Parry: 'I Was Glad'
Premiere of new work by DMU student Ashley Simons
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

We're looking for DMU students, staff and local Leicester musicians to join the Orchestra for this epic concert.

Rehearsals will take place on an intensive 'bullet-schedule' as follows:

- Saturday 26 May, 14:00 - 17:00 (full orchestra)
- Monday 4 June, 19:00 - 21:00 (sectional rehearsals led by members of the Philharmonia Orchestra)
- Sunday 10 June, 10:30 - 13:30 (full orchestra)
- Sunday 10 June, 15:00 - 17:00 (concert)

FREE Taiko Drumming Workshops for DMU students and staff.

DMU students and staff can now learn how to play the Japanese Taiko Drums!

As part of the new #DMUthrive programme we have teamed up with the DMU Mental Health Team and Bullfrog Arts to offer our students and staff a chance to relax, have fun and learn a new skill with Japanese Taiko Drumming. It doesn't matter if you have no musical experience at all, you're welcome to join the weekly workshop!

Regular workshops take place every term-time Wednesday from 14:00 - 16:00. Sign up via MyGateway.

Play with the DMU Orchestra

The DMU Orchestra brings together DMU students and staff with local and international amateur and professional musicians. Rather than rehearse weekly, the orchestra meets for an intensive rehearsal schedule in the build up to each concert.

Join the DMU Jazz Band

The DMU Jazz Band is bringing another year of jazz to DMU and we're looking for new, jazz-loving musicians to join us. Bringing together musicians from all over Leicester, the DMU Jazz Band is the place if you want to create great jazz, with great people and great passion.

The DMU Jazz Band rehearses ever term-time Wednesday evening. If you're interested in joining, get in touch via music@dmu.ac.uk

Sing with the DMU Chamber Choir

The DMU Chamber Choir is an SATB choir that explores repertoire from the past 500 years of classical choral tradition, as well as more contemporary pieces. Open to DMU students, members of staff and singers from the region, the choir welcomes those with a passion for singing.

The DMU Chamber Choir rehearses every Wednesday and Thursday evening. Interested in singing along? Email music@dmu.ac.uk.
