Your journey as an international student is unique to you

As soon as you join LIPC you become a DMU student which means you can join all the university’s international clubs and societies, and have access to all of DMU’s facilities Leicester’s reputation as one of the UK’s most culturally diverse cities means that you will soon feel at home.   


International Welcome Week

In the first week of October we arrange a variety of events and entertainment, giving you the chance to make friends and find out about housing, healthcare and welfare, library services and much more.

Every September and January we hold an International Welcome Week especially for our overseas students. It is a great opportunity to make new friends and find other students who will be on your course! There will be activities, day trips and entertainment too and our friendly LIPC staff will be able to answer all your questions about DMU.

Health, wellbeing and worship

There is a doctors’ surgery on campus for students and a confidential counselling service. We welcome students from all faiths and can help you find your religion’s community in Leicester. DMU has its own chapel as well as one of the biggest Muslim prayer rooms of any UK university.

Career support

We provide all the help you need to help you get your dream job. Our courses are designed with leading employers to make sure you have the skills needed to succeed in today’s hugely competitive jobs market. 

We offer:

  • Placements with top companies in the UK and overseas to give you vital work experience
  • An employment agency on campus which can help international students apply for part time work
  • The chance to work for the university on its Frontrunner scheme, which offers paid work experience and letting you acquire transferable skills relevant to work

De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) 

As a student, you’ll automatically become a member of the union. The DSU is based in the Campus Centre and is a great place to come and relax, or enjoy a night out. It has more than 100 sports teams and societies. Joining clubs are a good way to practice your English and make friends.

There’s also a buddy scheme which matches new arrivals with existing DMU students who will help you settle in and a weekly international café where you can meet other international students.

The International Students’ Association is organised through the DSU and offers a place to meet other international students and visits to places of interest around the UK like London and Shakespeare’s home.
