Bede Park incidents

In the past few days a number of our students have been involved in incidents near Bede Park. We are taking these very seriously and are working closely with police, the city council and our security teams to ensure that our campus is safe – student welfare is our utmost priority.

It is vital to us and to the police that if anyone is a victim of or witness to a crime, they should report it as soon as possible to police, or to our security team on 0116 257 7642.

While we appreciate the efforts students go to, to warn and advise others by posting about such incidents on social media, it is more important that those concerned make full reports to police or our security staff as a priority, to make sure enquiries can begin as quickly as possible.

In response to the incidents, we have increased patrols on campus and we do have 24-hour on-campus security. De Montfort Students’ Union will also be meeting with student group committees and DMU Security staff on Monday 22 October to promote student safety and discuss concerns.

If anyone has any concerns, they are very welcome to meet Head of Security, Kevin Burrows, in the Security Office (just up the street from the Campus Centre).
