BUCS league action returned this week and there were 31 teams in action for week four.
First up were DMU Men’s Tennis 1st who took on Birmingham 2nd at Knighton Tennis Centre.
Men’s Tennis were looking for their first win of the 2018/19 season after securing promotion to tier two last year.
All four singles matches were played at the same time, and #TeamDMU took Birmingham into a third set in two of the four matches.
Unfortunately, after two hours of play, #TeamDMU only came out with one win out of four leaving them 3-1 down going into the doubles matches – meaning all remaining games were now must win to secure a draw overall.
Both doubles pairs put on a great show and started strongly, but Birmingham came back fighting to take both points and take the overall win 5-1 on the day.
Next up were DMU Women’s Football 2nd v Worcester 2nd in BUCS tier 4.
After a great start to the campaign winning their first match of the season against arch rivals University of Leicester 3-2, #TeamDMU were looking pick up some more league points.
Worcester started very strongly, and DMU were under the cosh right from the whistle soaking up attack after attack.
Just when DMU thought they had weathered the storm a quick break from Worcester saw them take the lead right before half time.
#TeamDMU looked more attacking in the second half, after picking up some injuries they were forced to change formation to 3-5-2.
Unfortunately, this left them open to the counter attack and Worcester doubled their lead mid-way through the second half.
Despite a great effort for a comeback it wasn’t to be for DMU, and the match ended 2-0, with Worcester taking all three points.
All teams competing for #TeamDMU observed a minute’s silence before their fixtures to pay their respects to the five people who lost their lives at Leicester City Football Club earlier in the week.
