Friars Mill Office
De Montfort University (DMU) plays an important part in the Leicestershire business community and our new office space at the prestigious Friars Mill development is a demonstration of our commitment to the local and regional economy.
Our new office is a space for local businesses to meet with university experts, a space to exchange ideas and discuss business, or just meet and network.
We want businesses to use this space to actively engage with the university, and call upon our academic experts to discuss how the latest university research innovations can help to create growth in your organisation.
Equally we will be showcasing the latest university projects that have been developed to support business growth, holding events such as:
Our investment into the Research Business and Innovation (RBI) Exchange Office is an important aspect of the university's links with industry.
Friars Mill was originally known as the Donisthorpe factory and dates back to 1739. The building is a magnificent example of how Leicestershire’s woollen industry was originally created as a textiles manufacturing site.
DMU was originally founded as the Leicester School of Art in 1870 and our reputation for quality and distinctiveness in teaching and research is a direct result of our heritage. DMU's history stems back to when the School of Art and Leicester Technical School began training apprentices for local industries such as boot and shoe manufacture, furniture making and design, hosiery and textiles manufacture, engineering, printing and book binding.
The RBI Exchange Office aims to reignite our industrial links from the past by bringing together the best of university innovations and linking them to your business, supporting growth for the local and national economy.
Creating business impact with DMU expertise
The new office demonstrates the university's commitment to local businesses and is an opportunity to reignite elements of our past heritage by supporting growth for today's local and regional economy.
