Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA)

Next start date: Spring 2018

The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) from De Montfort University (DMU) will support the progression and development of your aspiring leaders and managers, or provide the opportunity to inject fresh skills and enterprise by recruiting new talent.

This programme is aligned to the Level 6 Chartered Manager Apprenticeship standard, designed by employers in partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

With integrating academic learning and on-the-job practical training this apprenticeship enables aspiring managers to develop confidence, capability and independence.

It is suitable for professional managers in the private, public or third sector and all sizes of organisations. Specific job roles may include; Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Department, Operations Manager; or anyone with specific management responsibilities.

Delivery Model

This blended work-based programme is taught over three years and includes 12 compulsory modules, and a 60 credit work-based project.

Each module is delivered in a two day block approximately every six weeks, during which participants will gain valuable input from academics, practitioners and industry guest speakers all who are experts in their field. In addition, apprentices will be expected to complete additional work away from the university (much of this will be work-based).

The programme will commence with a two day induction that will introduce participants to the programme team and will provide valuable insight into individual modules.

Assessment

The programme is designed to enable participants to apply the academic theory to their own organisation and role. There are a variety of assessment methods including; reports, essays, group presentations, case studies, research studies and proposals. In the final year of the programme the apprentice must undertake a work-based project, which will bring together elements of their learning from different parts of the programme and show their accumulated knowledge and understanding of management and its application in their organisation.

Business Portfolio

All students are required to create a portfolio which will capture the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed on the programme and in the workplace. This will contribute to their End Point Assessment and enable participants to reflect, plan and evaluate their development. Portfolio software will be used to capture all information and training will be provided to all participants on how to use the software.

End Point Assessment

The End Point Assessment (EPA) for the programme will include the presentation of the work-based project and an independent professional discussion to review the completed portfolio. The topic of the work-based project will be agreed between the employer and apprentice, and must be of benefit to the business.

Final Degree Award

All successful Apprentices will achieve:

  • BA (Hons) Business Management
  • Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management
  • Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA)

There will also be the opportunity to gain Chartered Manager status (CMgr MCMI) at the End Point Assessment.

Accredited Professional Development

The CMDA is dual accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). The CMI is the only chartered professional body in the UK dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence. Apprentices will automatically receive a professional qualification upon successful completion of the programme.

The dual accreditation also provides:

  • The opportunity to gain Chartered Manager status (CMgr MCMI)
  • Access to exclusive CMI networking events
  • The opportunity to attend lectures from CMI industry-expert members
  • Membership as a CMI Affiliate during your studies with a host of additional benefits to support development.

Entry Requirements

The programme is designed with professionals in mind, and this is reflected in the entry requirements. All applicants need to be employed by an organisation who has confirmed they will support their participation in the programme.

Bespoke Delivery Options

We are able to offer a bespoke programme to meet employer requirements but this will be subject to a minimum cohort size and will need to align with the Chartered Manager Apprenticeship standard.

Testimonial - Mattioli Woods plc

“It’s great to be able to offer such a fantastic opportunity to hard working young people to get a foot on the career ladder of our fast paced and forward thinking locally based plc business, as well as gaining a degree qualification without the associated costs and student loans. Their energy and dynamism spurred on by their learning through the course brings fresh ideas and a real dedication to our business. I’m especially looking forward to their final year when, as part of their End Point Assessment, they will have to embark on a project within the business to bring about change and efficiency. Personally I gain a great deal of satisfaction seeing individuals grow and blossom within our business and this is especially true of our two trail blazers on the degree apprenticeship program.”
