Please find below data protection information from the University's Advancement Office (Development and Alumni Relations).

We want to stay in touch with you and keep your personal information in accordance with your wishes.

All data is held securely and appropriately by De Montfort University. We will use your information to keep you up-to-date with news from our campus, including research, educational activities and courses, events, alumni activities, and opportunities to support our volunteering and fundraising programmes. Your data may contribute to relevant surveys, inform Higher Education reporting requirements, and support other aspects of our charitable mission.

We want you to enjoy our interactions. We work to make sure that we are responsible and cost-effective in our correspondence. Depending on your contact preferences, you will receive communications on the type of activities listed above via post, email, telephone, SMS text messages, and social media.

We continually review our alumni records to ensure the data we hold is as accurate as possible.  Therefore from time to time we may undertake research and analysis using publicly available sources in addition to the information that you provide us.  This can include keeping address details up to date via the Post Office National Change of Address database, reviewing job information that you have made available via LinkedIn or Facebook (as per their Privacy Policies), newspaper articles, company websites and other publicly available sources. This work helps us to improve the focus of our engagement and fundraising activities, to reach out to alumni with whom we have lost contact with, and to maintain the quality of the data held.

The type of information that we may collect and attach to your data record includes professional activities, media articles, relationships with other alumni and supporters, gift history, and details of existing connections with the University. We may also undertake wealth screening with trusted third parties to identify and initiate conversations with potential donors who have the capacity to provide significant support for our charitable projects. We also use this type of data as part of our due diligence on donors to meet money laundering regulations in alignment with our Gift Acceptance policy. Together, this information may be compiled to create a profile of your personal engagement preferences to help us deliver the best service for you.

From time to time, we may use your information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy policy. If our information practices change at any time in the future, where practical to do so, De Montfort University will communicate new processing direct to affected individuals and where necessary, collect appropriate contents for the processing.

If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check this page periodically.  We will only use data collected from the time of the policy change onwards for these new purposes.
