Multiple graduates from different faculties at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), have found themselves working at the same top communications agency after finishing their degrees.
Flying the flag for DMU, current student Sabina Mack and graduates Alice Treherne, Lucy Burns and Rae Stephenson have secured jobs at the fast-growing and award-winning agency spottydog communications, due to the great work experience links provided at DMU.
Sabina, a current Business and Marketing student, is working with spottydog communications for a year as part of the Industrial Placement Scheme offered by the agency to students across the country.
As the newest member of the spottydog pack, Sabina said: “The placement opportunities at DMU were definitely key when I was choosing universities. DMU not only has an incredible placement team but also provides a huge variety of local opportunities, which I was really excited about.
“My placement at spottydog communications is not only providing me with invaluable industry experience, but staying in Leicester has meant I have remained part of university life and become chair of DMU Acapella. I’ve had an amazing start at spottydog and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.”
Alice, who graduated with a degree in Arts Management and a master's in Public Relations, has amassed years of experience with the agency as both a freelance and full-time team member.
Alice said: “I actually changed courses to pursue PR after realising the Journalism course wasn’t quite right for me and my interests. That’s one of the great things about DMU – they encourage exposure to different industries along the way to help you make the right moves for your career.
“That decision has led me to several great roles throughout the years and now to my position as a consultant at spottydog communications.”
Lucy, who graduated with a master's in Advertising & Public Relations Mangement, joined the agency earlier this year, added: “During my time at DMU I had the opportunity to work on live briefs and form relationships with local businesses, which really showcased the potential career opportunities that the Midlands has to offer.

“Once I graduated I was keen to stay within the Leicestershire area and I found that the emphasis DMU placed on gaining practical transferable skills and industry experience made the transition into employment a lot easier and definitely helped me to hit the ground running at spottydog.”
Dedicated to helping students make connections with employers within the region, spottydog communications has hosted guest lectures for students to explain how they can get into the industry themselves.
Rae who graduated in 2015 in English Language & Journalism, applied as an intern at spottydog communications for three months. She was then taken on as a full-time executive and is now a consultant.
Rae said: “There’s a lot of negative press around the prospects for students after university, especially with degrees within the humanities. I think all of our success stories just go to prove that with the right support and experiences during university, your degree can take you anywhere.
“I believe spottydog took a chance on me as a fresh graduate due to the work experience roles I’d already had the chance to undertake during my degree, so I’m very grateful for that.”
