Performance Arts Centre for Excellence (PACE) Building![]() ![]() De Montfort University (DMU) was awarded £4.5 million from the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) and made the UK’s only Centre of Excellence in Performance Arts (CEPA). This funding was invested in teaching, facilities and the construction of the PACE building which opened in October 2007. The PACE building has four large studios, rehearsal rooms and music recording facilities. The studio spaces are fully flexible, allowing different set-ups for different types of performance with seating for up to 120 people. The PACE building has hosted performances from students and professionals. As part of DMU’s many creative exchanges across school’s and faculties, undergraduates from Drama Studies performed an adaptation of Robert Lepage’s 'The Seven Streams of the River Ota' in the PACE building. Using the funding from HEFCE DMU has developed staff, teaching and resources to advance national and international thinking about the study of performance based subjects. The centre has many links with local colleges and arts organisations, allowing CEPA students to work with local college students in the community, positively benefiting Leicester’s vibrant arts scene.
