Environmental and sustainability benchmarking is a tool for comparing the environmental and sustainability performance of different organisations. This form of benchmarking is becoming increasingly important as these issues gain prominence within universities. DMU takes part in the People and Planet Green League for which it was awarded a 1st class award in 2016.
People and Plant - Green League
DMU also takes part in the annual Green League which ranks universities on their environmental performance. The Green League is run by the student environmental campaign group People and Planet.
The Green League takes a dual approach to environmental management - looking both at commitment to systemic environmental management and at environmental performance. The performance indicators reveal how well an institution is performing on the ground as well as assessing the policy commitments that have been made. The policy criteria demonstrate whether an institution has a systematic means of improving such performance. Each institution is scored and ranked according to degree classifications.
DMU has for the past four years been placed amongst the greenest universities in the country. We have consistently gained the First Class Award in the league and were placed 9th out of English universities and 13th in the 2016 Green League overall. A full breakdown of the scoring for the league and information about previous years performances can be found on the People and Planet website.
