eclub2The aim of the Electronics Club is to develop practical skills in building circuits (going all the way to surface mount components) and to help embed a practical understanding of how the basic circuit laws and components work together to allow systems to be designed and constructed.
The Electronics Club is organised as a series of workshop sessions, starting at 2pm until 5pm on Wednesdays, led by technicians and academics, working through a programme of practical exercises starting with simple circuits and finishing with building systems using integrated circuits and surface mount components. The programme is:
- Introduction to Electrical current and Principles
- Understanding Voltage, Current, Power and Energy, Ohm’s law
- An introduction to electronic components and basic measurement
- Block diagrams of Electronic systems, AC , DC and Electrical Signals
- Types of Circuit boards, using prototype Breadboards, veroboards, custom printed circuit boards
- Practical soldering exercises
- Integrated circuits. Logic ICs. Timer circuits using the 555/556 IC.
- Advanced Circuit diagrams, explanation of Transistors, FETs, Transducers, Inductors and Reactance, with practical circuits
- Introduction to Microprocessors/Microcontrollers
- Introduction to CAD programs, PCB Wizard and Eagle PCB layouts
- Introduction to Surface mount components: handling, limitations, and applications
eclub3Students who want to experiment more, or who want help with their circuits have the opportunity to stay on for another hour or more with technical support available to help them.
