Undergraduate study

Undergraduate study within the School of Arts develops your creativity, encourages experimentation, advances your skills in critical analysis and your awareness of historical context.

Our combination of research informed teaching and first-rate facilities provide you with an innovative and creative learning environment Many of our lecturers are practicing artists, composers, choreographers and performers providing you with first-hand professional expertise.

Performance arts and music courses focus on the contemporary with opportunities to utilise cutting-edge technology, perform, and explore theory and contextual study. Our bespoke PACE Building forms a creative hub, hosting the Unversity Dance Festival, the drama showcase Exit Souls, as well as concerts, talks and visiting practitioners workshops. Outside of the University our close links with the City's Phoenix Square and the world-class Curve Theatre offer you further opportunities.

Visual arts courses include Fine art, which allows you to develop your creative ambition in disciplines such as painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, drawing, performance, video, photography and electronic media. Facilities include generous studio space as well as specialist workshops and the course culminates in our final year Degree Show. We also offer Foundation Studies Art and Design course which prepares you for progression to a variety of specialist art and design courses, including BA/BSc (Hons) degrees.

For students wishing to develop a career in festival and venue management our Arts and Festivals management course offers real-world experience through our close links with Leicster's nationally acclaimed Comedy Festival and the University's own prestigeous Cultural Exchanges festival.

Employment

Some of our most talented students have realised their ambitions as professional artists, performers, and dancers and choreographers, such as the Akram Khan|. Others have chosen highly successful careers in education, television and the media, arts and festival administration, events management, the music industry, and are now employed by companies such as MTV, Ballet Rambert, Wembley Arena, the BBC, St Paul’s Cathedral Events and Glastonbury Festival.

Importantly, We also find that our graduates are able to use transferable skills gained on our courses to develop excellent careers in areas such as human resource, advertising and marketing, public relations, and management.
