SYNAPSE exhibition 2011
Following the successful SYNAPSE festival 2010 (www.synapsefestival.com|) , the ‘Transitions’ exhibition at De Montfort University, Leicester continues to profile the work of emerging artists from the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire in order to create an environment where talent is supported and creativity is allowed to flourish. The exhibition aims to promote cross fertilisation of social, cultural and creative ideas thus encouraging creativity and diversity.
Saira Lloyd, the director of Synapse Arts has worked closely with Fiona Kinnell, Subject Leader and former MA Fine Art programme leader to continue their fruitful relationship in supporting and nurturing emerging artists from universities across The East Midlands. The artists participating in this exhibition are from the Universities of Nottingham, Trent, Derby and DeMontfort. Their combined work creates the basis of a dialogue regarding the nature and concerns of contemporary visual arts in the East Midlands. This is particularly relevant as the Arts face significant challenges in a volatile and fragile political, social and economic climate.
This exhibition is part of a continuing programme of events aimed at providing opportunities for emerging artists from the region. It follows a portfolio and professional development day at Embrace Arts, Leicester University in September 2011 and precedes a symposium, artists’ residencies, mentorship scheme and a conference in 2012.
Synapse Arts will continue to provide emerging artists the opportunities to create work, generate and explore innovative ideas and to take risks.
The artists in this exhibition are – Joanna Geldard (University of Derby) Stephani Richards (Nottingham Trent University) Tracy Kershaw (University of Nottingham) Paul Holding, Helene Markham Jones, Tracy Walker, Wayne Mitchelson (De Montfort University MA).
