Leicester Media School facilities

The facilities within the Leicester Media School support the foundations of our teaching and offer industry standard technology.We provide cutting edge facilities which are continually updated to match industry trends and are supported by highly trained technical staff.

Creative Technology Studios

The multi-million pound Creative Technology Studios| (CTS) in the Queens Building boasts a range of industry standard equipment featuring audio recording studios, broadcast-standard radio production studios with professional playout and management systems, fused-media and motion-capture studios, HD cameras and 3D research facilities.

Our stand-alone film studios, located within the CTS, are equipped with multi-cameras, blue screen and green screen studios, a full lighting setup, and a viewing gallery so that cameras and presenters can receive direction from the students taking the role of a producer.

Video production laboratories form an integral part of the CTS, our video production laboratories are designed for High-Definition (HD) video extraction, HD editing, effect processing, CGI, DVD creation and mastering.

Animation Design Studios

Our Animation Design studios are based in a brand new dedicated space within our Bede Island building. Facilities  include digital animation, sound and effects studios, editing suites and dedicated graphics studios, computer suites for lectures and practical workshops, screening rooms for viewing ‘dailies’ and presentations, VFX green screen and motion capture facilities.

Game Art Design Studio

Game Art Design students also have a brand new dedicated space at Bede Island, they benefit from a range of software and hardware for producing PC game content, and for studying games on PC, PS3, Xbox and next generation hardware as it becomes available. Students can also make use of a dedicated drawing studio and well-equipped lecture/seminar rooms.

Graphic Design

The Queens Building houses many facilities for Graphics Design students including Mac-equipped computer suites, open access multi-purpose studios with excellent natural lighting, digital imaging equipment, dedicated drawing and visualisation studios and large photography and printmaking workshops.

Music and Performance Arts

Students on our Music, Technology and Innovation and Music, Technology and Performance courses can access the excellent facilities available in our Performance Arts Centre of Excellence (PACE) Building|. The centre includes rehearsal and performance spaces, well-equipped recording studios and multi-user audio laboratories, all of which you can book to use outside of class times. Students can also make the most of our extensive equipment loans facility, which can be used for both on and off campus work.

Leicester Centre for Journalism

All Journalism students can enjoy state-of-the-art dedicated Journalism computer labs in the Leicester Centre for Journalism| (Clephan Building) for their regular Practical Journalism workshops. Single Honours students have their own separate newsroom, which they use to prepare their own journalistic projects for their course. The award winning Demon Media, which includes a newspaper, radio and TV station gives students a chance to take active roles in producing professional work.

Media and Communication

Students on our Media and Media and Communication courses can access fully equipped digital media labs featuring Apple Pro and Apple iMac computers with cinema screens, the latest operating software and Creative Suite 3. Students can also use the university’s well-equipped photographic studios, video editing suites and sound studios.
