ARTS and entertainments journalism lecturer Andy Plaice spent much of the year writing features and reviews for a number of publications including the Sunday Express and the Daily Express.
The breakthrough came with an exclusive interview on the 50th anniversary of the Great Train Robbery.
He said: ‘The Mail on Sunday nearly had it but then I tried the Sunday Express. After an initial phone call I pitched it to them by email and they said yes within about five minutes.’
A fortnight later he followed it up with another two-page spread, this time on comedy double acts.
Other work has included book reviews for the Daily Express (see the first below), reviewing for the British Theatre Guide, an exclusive story for The Voice and a sex abuse court case for the Leicester Mercury, along with pieces for the Ambassadors Theatre Group website, Grantham Journal and British Comedy Guide.
Andy, who has more projects in the pipeline, said: ‘It’s great experience, and something I share with students such as showing the actual pitches which secured the commission.’
