Course: Business Management and Law
I chose DMU after I visited DMU on an open day and was extremely impressed by the campus. Also, as I intended to study a Business course I was recommended this university due to the facilities and support available from the Business and Law school.
I was attracted to study Business Management and Law as I enjoyed both subjects at A-Level and was unsure as to what specific route to take. Therefore, I decided to study the joint honours and get the best of both worlds.
My favourite feature of the course is that there are various assessments including assignments, exams and group presentations which offer variety to the students. I enjoy the law modules the most especially Family Law as I feel this is taught extremely well and is of great interest to me.
I feel most of the staff are extremely engaging in lectures and tutorials which is very beneficial to students as we can gain better understanding.
The facilities in Hugh Aston are excellent as even during exam time there will be study rooms/computers available for students to use. Also, the building is very modern and has a nice feel to it, it is very welcoming. The law library in Hugh Aston is also beneficial especially when Kimberlin library is busy.
In my opinion, student life is very active on campus as there is always something to do or there is something going on for example students can get involved with societies and have social gatherings at events. Life in Leicester is a very fun as well as there are lots of places to visit and the city centre is very close by.
I did an 11 month placement at Geotech (GI) in the Customer Support Department where I was based in the accounts and sales departments.
There are various benefits of a placement as you gain real business skills and you can experience how a real-life business operates every day. There are many skills you can develop such as communication, organisation, numerical and general interpersonal skills. Also, you are able to develop a rapport with people and these contacts can be of benefit in the future.
I have gained all the necessary skills which I can utilise in any job role and any work place.
