I chose DMU as I was really impressed on the open day with the modern facilities and the knowledgeable academics.
I studied Law at A level and I fell in love with it. I am planning on qualifying as solicitor, ideally specialising in commercial and corporate law.
The staff have been fundamental to my success. They are very flexible, ensuring everything is right for me. Surgery hours give me reassurance that I can get help when needed and the personal tutor scheme has provided a lot of support. The staff are experts in their field and it makes a big difference when you know they truly understand every aspect of the module.
DMU has given me so much confidence. I have had fantastic opportunities which I could not have had anywhere else. I have also spent a year volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau as well as securing a committee position on the DMU Law Society. I have been involved in extra-curricular mooting and client interviewing which has developed my communication and analytical skills. Through studying at DMU I have enriched my CV and gained the skills necessary to secure the job I have always dreamed of.
I have taken full advantage #DMUglobal and visited the institutions of the European Union in Brussels. I have been to Luxembourg to visit the Court of Justice and I am travelling to Bali to take part in a voluntary trip. DMU provide a bursary and without this these, trips would not have been accessible for me.
Under the Frontrunner scheme I worked for 4 months at Spearing Waite as a legal intern within the commercial property department. I was involved in the commercial property department of the firm. I worked with trainee solicitors, paralegals and partners of the firm meaning I had contact at all levels. I was involved in drafting legal deeds and correspondence. The most memorable experience was when I was given the opportunity to read through the terms of a lease and pick out terms which were particularly unfair on our client. Based on my findings the partner managing the case amended some of the terms and implemented my recommendations. I felt like a valued member of the team and I felt privileged to have been given the opportunity.
