A De Montfort University alumnus has been nameA De Montfort University alumnus has been named new managing partner for the Leicester branch of one of the biggest law firms in the country.
Mary Mackintosh, who was also the University’s former Head of Legal Services for three years, will head up Freeth Cartwright’s Leicester office.
Mary first joined Freeth in 2003, before joining DMU between 2005 and 2008, returning to Freeth as a commercial partner.
While at DMU, Mary advised the university on issues, including the creation of the new University of Bedfordshire. She also set up the first in-house legal team at the university.
She said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead the team here in Leicester, and I hope to build on our considerable successes thus far.”
She maintains close links with the university. The firm sponsors awards for law students and earlier this year, she was one of the sponsors handing out prizes for DMU’s brightest law students following their graduation ceremony.
She said at January’s event: “As Freeth Cartwright is a local law firm, we always encourage local applications from graduates. We have close links with the future and we feel these awards are a way of investing in the future.”
Freeth has offices across the country, a turnover of more than £40million and more than 100 partners.
It has 35 staff in the city, has 10 offices, including ones in Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and London. The company relocated from New Walk in the city to the £20 million Colton Square office complex in 2008.
