On March 18, the US Ambassador to the UK Matthew Barzun visited DMU for an afternoon of Q&A with Politics students, as well as viewing an exhibition of fashion, architecture and gaming items. Ambassador Barzun was appointed by President Obama in the light of his groundbreaking contribution to the 2008 US presidential election campaign for which Barzun is credited with helping to create an army of 'citizen fundraisers.' The Ambassador spoke honestly about the difficulties of America's C21 role on the international stage, and the challenges around engaging the youth vote. He was very effusive regarding the specialness of the over-analyzed union between his home and host country, and was genuinely keen to hear from students, both on the day and via Twitter @MatthewBarzun.
