Students at De Montfort University’s (DMU) award-winning Department of Accounting and Finance have been offered course support and career opportunities from a leading accountancy firm.
Midlands-based business advisers and chartered accountants MGC Hayles have teamed up with DMU to support Accounting and Finance students and graduates.
The company will sponsor a presentation prize, involving a review of the students’ final year projects and sitting in on student presentations of their findings. To give further help to students, the directors of MGC Hayles will provide support and feedback from their own commercial experiences as well as offering the group with the best presentation the opportunity to gain work experience within their firm.
MGC Hayles has also committed to recruiting a graduate full time and to provide a structured four year training plan, working towards a professional accountancy qualification.
Dr Peter Scott of DMU,said: “The students really do appreciate the opportunity to listen to the views and experiences of the team at MGC Hayles and to talk to them about their own presentations to understand how their own studies and work fits into accounting and business practice. We are very pleased that MGC Hayles are helping to support us with this now and into the future.”
Steven Mugglestone, the lead director at MGC Hayles in Leicester said: “Helping both young entrepreneurs and young professionals is very much at the centre of our business ethos and we really want to help DMU and their graduates.
“We have developed our own 4 year graduate training program to cover a number of commercial, accounts, tax and finance areas as we see developing professionally qualified graduate accountants with a wide range of business experience as the key to our own future success as well.”
He said MGC Hayles had recently recruited a graduate in Accountancy from DMU and aimed to continue to do so.
