RWE npower Case Study

Partnership Approach to Management Development

“I now have the ability to understand the big picture in relation to matters of strategic importance to the business which enables a more intelligent approach to business decision.”

RWE nopwer is one of Europe’s leading electricity and gas companies. A focus on delivering the highest quality of service to its customers is achieved through building and retaining a highly skilled and well-motivated workforce. In 2002, the company sought to develop a close, productive partnership approach to management development through which to provide a management education programme to key functional specialists who had progressed to increasingly demanding managerial roles.

A supported, open learning Certificate in Management Studies was implemented as the optimal solution for staff dispersed across the UK and overseas. The Certificate addresses the theoretical and practical needs of functional managers and fits seamlessly alongside the internal management training toolbox. As the first qualification in a possible three stage pathway, participants can take their management education to the level most appropriate to their needs: Graduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Masters Degree. The open learning approach ensures that  participants gain maximum access to academic support from the Business School with minimal workplace disruption.
