Curve is a state-of-the-art theatre in Leicester, located in the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. DMU and Curve enjoy a partnership that includes a number of exciting and innovative activities and initiatives.
Curve provides a spectacular and prestigious venue for the university’s graduation ceremonies, held in summer and winter each year. Students and staff can benefit from free or discounted tickets to enjoy Curve’s wide range of theatre productions each season, and DMU students have the opportunity to showcase and nurture their talent both on stage and behind the scenes at Curve. A recent collaboration has seen DMU Drama Studies students perform in two plays written by Olivier award-winner Carly Churchill and directed by Curve’s Associate Directors. This year’s annual University Dance Festival took place at Curve, giving over 60 DMU Dance students the opportunity to perform to the wider public in a professional environment. DMU Interior Design students were invited to design a backdrop for the CurveBall Comedy Talent Nights, held at Curve as part of Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival, with the winning design installed in the foyer stage area. The Curve hosts annual exhibitions of student work, plus orientation days for students each year. In addition, Curve offers work placements for students, including opportunities through DMU’s Frontrunners programme.
DMU and Curve will continue to explore opportunities to work together for their mutual benefit, such as student photography and video projects, plus potential research collaborations and academic links between the two organisations.
