British Library

The British Library is one of the country’s most important cultural institutions and its partnership with De Montfort University (DMU) sees the two organisations working together on a number of projects.

Professor Dominic Shellard, DMU Vice-Chancellor, leads the Theatre Archive Project, which is hosted by the British Library.

The project catalogues key figures in post-war theatre (1945–68). With more than 100 transcribed interviews with variety performers, period images and original sound extracts it provides a unique oral history of the era. More information can be found at www.bl.uk/theatrearchive|

Kristian Jensen, Head of Arts and Humanities at the British Library, delivered a distinguished lecture at DMU in 2011.

The partnership also includes a jointly sponsored PhD studentship to work on an archive for playwright David Rudkin, as part of the Theatre Archive Project.

Professor Shellard is a keen user of micro-blogging website Twitter and his tweets are preserved by the British Library as part of its UK Web Archive: an initiative that preserves websites that are representative of British social history and cultural heritage.
