Placement team's pride as nine business students get ready for roles with multinational company

Nine De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students are starting sandwich year roles with a multinational pharmaceutical company this month.

The students have benefited from skills workshops and mock interview sessions to support the application process, delivered by the Business and Law Placement Team.

With 60-plus sandwich opportunities advertised by Pfizer, the placement team are "proud of such a positive result".

Minaxi Patel, from the Business and Law Placement Team, said: "Pfizer is a brilliant organisation where previous DMU students have had a fantastic experience and really thrived and excelled in the working environment.

"They have experienced global networking opportunities as well as making a real impact on marketing campaigns and market research.

"Pfizer advertised more than 60 placements last year and we're proud to have DMU students representing the university in this commercial environment.

"What is great about placements at Pfizer is the variety of roles available. There is something there for all of the students in the Business and Law faculty to apply for."

Seven DMU students have just finished their year with the company and some have benefited from overseas experiences in France, Italy and Germany.

Minaxi believes the team's tailored approach to supporting students - as part of the university's #DMUworks careers programme - is paying dividends.

"We have seen positive results year on year," she added.

Business and Management student Lucy Ward is "very excited" to be starting her placement.

"I found out I had been offered the placement just after Christmas, and it was an unbelievable and great surprise," said the 20-year-old, who will work in digital marketing at the company's UK HQ in Surrey.

"The advice I was offered by the placement team was of value and the extra talks were helpful.

"I am certain that taking part in the placement year will provide me with experiences and contacts that can help me excel in the future while also giving me real industry experience."

Marketing student Charleigh Heathcote, 19, is also heading for Surrey and will be based in the retail marketing department.

"I feel very honoured to have been given the opportunity to work for such a large organisation and am excited to see how the year will unfold," she said.

"I believe the placement will provide me with a better understanding as to how marketing is practised throughout business situations. This increased knowledge, I hope, will also aid the completion of my studies into my final year."

She also benefited from the support of the placement team. "All the extra sessions, from filling out application forms to creating a high-quality CV, were invaluable in securing this placement," added Charleigh.

The other students starting at Pfizer in September are Rebecca Beggs, Carolyn Singleton, Millie Kenyon, Hamza Rawat, Humraj Dosanjh, Yasmien Mereb and Bethany Barnett, with roles ranging from junior brand manager to real estate and facilities management operator.
