New English MA course allows students full creativity

Students looking to research deeply into the writing which most interests them can now take advantage of a new English MA offered by De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).

The new postgraduate course allows students to pursue their own areas of interest, backed up by taught-modules, giving them the freedom to create the kind of study programme they want.

This enables the course to act as a stepping-stone to either research at PhD level or a career in teaching, publishing, research or event management.

Professor Deborah Cartmell, course leader, said: "The beauty of the course is its adaptability to the interests of the student.

"Half it is taught and half is one-to-one. So you can come to the course with an interest and we can build the course around that.

"We are also making sure that you come out with practical skills and experience, so there will be opportunities to write and publish reviews, organise events - which will involve booking and managing venues, overseeing the whole process - and meet with other researchers and attend international conferences.

"This will increase the employability of graduates."
