Leicester Castle Business School revealed to the world at King Power Stadium

Leicester Castle Business School made its debut in front of the world when Premier League champions Leicester City played their first match after winning the title.

A global TV audience of billions, in addition to a sell-out crowd at the King Power Stadium, watched the Foxes play Everton – and were introduced to De Montfort University Leicester’s (DMU) 21st century business school.

Principal Professor Dana Brown believed it was fitting to launch the school, via a 30-second pitchside advertisement, at the home ground of DMU’s official higher education partners.

She said: “We couldn’t think of a better time to show the world what we can do, and what our students can hope to achieve, than at this very special game.”

As well as viewing the perimeter advertising board, international audiences could find out what makes the school a leader in the field by visiting its new website.

Professor Brown said: “Top-quality management, shrewd scouting of players, hard work, dedication and embracing new technology have all contributed to Leicester City’s well-deserved success – themes in common with Leicester Castle Business School.”

The school has been created in response to the need for a new kind of institution capable of responding to a rapidly changing world, appointing a principal with the necessary pedigree to train future leaders and shapers.

Professor Brown, formerly Director of the MBA at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School – one of the world’s most prominent schools for business – said: “We have created a school that is responsive to the employment market, to industry, and the needs and interests of students; a place where students are exposed to leading technology and new ideas.”

From September, the school is offering a portfolio of bespoke courses aimed at highly ambitious students from around the world.

Professor Brown said: “We understand that to be successful today, students have to learn how to learn, to use information wisely, reach decisions, communicate, negotiate, and work in global, team-based environments.

“The courses prepare students in this way, employing the very best and unique learning tools, high levels of support and mentoring and ample opportunities to engage with business leaders and gain hands-on experience.”

Scholarships are available to eligible students for six of the courses – BSc Global Finance, BSc Global Leadership and Management, MSc Global Investment and Risk, MSc Global Banking and Finance, MSc Business Management and the Creative Industries, and MSc Business Management and Sport.

Professor Brown said: “The Principal’s Scholarships will be offered to top applicants. We are looking for students with a background of outstanding achievement and who have demonstrated potential for organisational leadership or entrepreneurship.”

Students will also benefit from being based in the inspirational setting of the Great Hall of Leicester Castle when a £4.2 million refurbishment programme is completed early next year. This historic building has played host to dukes, literary legends and kings including Richard III.

Professor Brown added: “We have a chance to restore an historic building to tell the public and future business leaders a little more about the history and to create an environment for learning that is truly unique.

“It will make our students feel a part of something that’s much bigger than you may feel in a traditional learning environment.”
