Emma's delight at winning Ultimate Graduation prize

Graduation was always going to be a special day for Emma Joseph  – but the icing on the cake came when she won a De Montfort University Leicester prize for “The Ultimate Graduation”.

ULTIMATE PRIZE main

WINNER: Emma collects her prize from Paul Stephenson of DMU's Advancement Office

Emma, who collected a BSc in Children’s Nursing yesterday at The Venue@DMU, was the lucky winner in the prize draw which was open to all students taking part in this month’s Winter Graduations.

Emma's name was first out of the hat after registering for the draw with her email address. She won a £200 Highcross Shopping Centre Gift Card, a hair makeover from Danique Hair and Beauty, a family meal at the award-winning Maiyango restaurant and free robe hire and photography from William Northam.

Emma, who is now working full-time in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at St George’s Hospital, London, said: “I was on my lunch break at my work and my boyfriend, who used to go to DMU, told me about the draw. I was really shocked to win. Someone rang to tell me when I was travelling back from work and I thought I was being prank called. It’s a great prize.”

Emma “absolutely loved” her nursing course. She said: “It was amazing. There were placements and I gained lots of experience working with children. It was so good. Everyone should do it.”

The prize draw was organised by the Advancement Office, which looks after a network of thousands of DMU graduates around the world, alongside Holland Alexander, who helped put the graduation ceremonies together.

David Kell, Advancement Services Manager, said: “What a wonderful prize for a graduate. We were delighted we had local businesses get involved and would like to thank them for their generosity.

“We hope to do the same for the summer graduations, so anybody who is due to graduate in July should watch this space for a chance to win their “Ultimate Graduation”.”
