Bank expert becomes new author of DMU's influential Commercial Property Lending Report


De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Nicole Lux to work on its influential Commercial Property Lending Report.

The report – seen as the benchmark measure for the UK commercial sector – has been compiled by DMU since 1997.

Dr Lux, a former Vice-President of Deutsche Bank in real estate debt restructuring, will oversee an expansion and digitization of the report. Dr Lux, who is a Senior Research Fellow, will work alongside report founder Bill Maxted who is retiring later this year.

Dr Lux (pictured above) brings to DMU a wealth of experience in investment and refinancing sector including more than 15 years’ experience in real estate analysis.

She said: “The property lending report is well-respected throughout the industry and used as an indicator of the appetite for lending and development. “It is exciting to be working with Bill Maxted and we have big plans to develop the scope and accessibility of the report.”

Dr Lux began her career with investment insight company IPD (MSCI) and has worked for Moody’s Investor Service and Citigroup as well as Deutsche Bank in loan origination and restructuring. She has worked on transactions with large bank syndicates and individual borrowers across Europe.

Since her PhD in 2002, she has been a regular conference speaker and is the main author of ‘Assessing real estate risk – models, concepts, methods’, published in 2012 by Euromoney, London. Dr Lux has also been a regular lecturer at Cass Business School in London.

The reports are compiled from data provided by approximately 65 of the major banks, building societies and insurance companies, as well as debt funds and asset management firms.

Professor Cillian Ryan, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, said: “The appointment of Nicole, along with a revamp of the report, will ensure that ‘The UK Commercial Property Lending Report’ remains current and responsive to the needs of the sector when Bill retires later this year.”

Dr Lux will be supported by further university research staff and will work closely with external advisers to enhance the survey.
