Strong performances from many subject areas in influential league tables

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has been ranked in the top five of the influential The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide league tables for teaching quality, student experience, graduate prospects and teaching experience within different subject areas.

Strong performances from many subject areas have built on the university’s ‘meteoric’ rise last year to stay in top positions.

Student experience and teaching quality at DMU were ranked highly in the overall report, with the university appearing in the top 50, and individual subject areas were commended in the league tables.

Accounting and Finance, Economics and Mechanical Engineering all appeared in the top five for teaching quality, while Psychology and Mechanical Engineering are placed in the top five for student experience.

Highly commended for graduate prospects were Forensic Science, Nursing and Arts and Festivals Management, which were all placed in the top five universities in the country.

Economics was also recognised as being second in the country for teaching experience.

The influential The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide league tables rank all universities in the UK according to criteria such as student satisfaction, research quality, entry standards, student-to-staff ratio, spend on facilities and graduate prospects to create a comprehensive guide to UK universities.

Mechanical Engineering at DMU is one of the subject areas named in the top five for teaching quality and student experience.

Dr Hobina Rajakaruna, course leader of Mechanical Engineering, said: “It’s great to be in the top five for student experience. I think it’s because of the support the whole team provides, we have an open door policy here to offer support at any time and we really focus on added value for students.

The courses included within Mechanical, Production and Manufacturing Engineering were also ranked third in the country for both their learning resources and their organisation and management by the National Student Survey 2015.

“Students are used to looking at league tables to help them decide on a university, and with so many options it’s a great way to help them to make a decision.”
