The university campaign is nominated for the Integrated Marketing Strategy of the Year in the annual awards run by The Drum, the UK’s largest marketing website. It is the first university campaign to ever make the shortlist for this award.

DMU is recognised for its current campaign focusing on promoting the university as a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation that never surrenders to convention.

Central to the strategy is a TV advertisement which reflects the university’s spirit and captures the fantastic student experience which DMU places at the heart of everything it does.

With major brands such as McVities and Google, as well as that famous festive John Lewis campaign featuring Monty the Penguin also included on the shortlist, it’s clear that DMU is ranked among the strongest brands in Britain.

Mel Fowler, Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment at DMU, said: “Ours is the first university campaign to make the shortlist for this prestigious award. It is wonderful to be regarded as among the very best national brands by leading industry experts, evidencing the quality and innovation of our marketing activity.”

The university has been recognised for producing a campaign which broke the higher education mould.

The campaign took in spots on national TV and cinema and also featured digital and social media strands as well as more traditional outlets.

Both current and prospective students have expressed their delight in seeing the university showcased in such an ambitious fashion.

Six weeks after the campaign launched came the news that DMU had been ranked as the most improved university in the UK, according to The Sunday Times league tables. DMU is also one of the top 50 universities in the country when it comes to graduates finding jobs.

The winner of The Drum awards will be announced on 7 May.
