A De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) student has won a prestigious fashion competition in her first year of study.
Louisa Haywood, studying on DMU’s internationally-renowned Contour Fashion course, won the design contest run by the Lascivious lingerie company, itself founded by former DMU Contour Fashion student Chloe Hamblin.
Entrants had to design a four to six piece collection, all in black, for autumn and winter next year.
Louisa based her designs around the English Monarchy and the English rose, and include a high-necked shawl inspired by Royal gowns, as well as other pieces based around the English rose motif.
She said: “I chose to base my designs [around these themes] as an upcoming trend is anything British.”

The designs are also inspired by Lascivious’ existing designs, which Louisa highlights as an influence.
She said: “Winning the competition has shown me that the skills I have learnt in my first year of study have really helped me to refine how I work and this achievement has definitely heightened my ambitions even further.”
But there was still time to celebrate, as Louisa explains: “When I found out I had won I was in France and we cracked open a bottle of champagne while I tried to call my mum!
“The competition feels like my first achievement within the industry and I'm even more motivated now to get onto my next project. I'm so pleased I won it; it was a good confidence boost after [just] my first year!
“Since winning I've been obsessed with trying to find more competitions to enter.”
DMU’s illustrious Contour Fashion course, established in 1947 to support Leicester’s corset industry, specialises in the design of lingerie, underwear, swimwear, nightwear and corsetry. It is now a unique programme of study which boasts graduates who have gone on to work for international brands or set up their own lingerie labels.
