Renowned School of Architecture prepares new course to help our students fill skills gap

De Montfort University Leicester’s  (DMU) renowned School of Architecture has released details of a new course for students which will draw on expertise from industry leaders to help secure them a job in an area ripe for new graduates.

BSc-ArchTech---MAIN

The Architectural Technology BSc degree course at DMU will develop the skills needed to be a specialist in the science of architecture, building design and construction.

Students who sign up to the course, which will be available for study in 2015 subject to validation, will gain the ability to analyse and evaluate the technical side of design to ensure that a building performs successfully.

Perhaps most excitingly for students who sign up to the course, it has been specifically designed to meet a skills shortage identified by the industry.

At the same time, students will be able to gain valuable work experience by doing a year’s industrial placement between years two and three.

DMU is committed to providing its students with experiences that gives them the opportunity to apply their new found skills in the workplace and help them into work.

Dr Ahmad Taki, subject head for Architectural Technology, Principal Lecturer and Programme Leader for MSc Architecture & Sustainability, said: “Students on the new proposed programme should have no problems in securing employability.

“Additionally, this new programme focuses on design strategies to promote and encourage sustainability.

“This should help equip and train students to become responsible global citizens in the face of the new global and environmental challenges ahead of them.”

Students who join DMU will also have the opportunity for an international experience as part of their studies through the pioneering initiative called #DMUglobal.
