A community of learning

The university is a community of learners. We never stop learning, whether it's from our lecturers, our colleagues, other students or the wider world.

We take this approach with both teaching and assessment. Every assessment must be seen as an opportunity to learn, and our community helps you from the moment you arrive at DMU.

When you arrive at DMU you will be assigned a personal tutor, who is there to help you make a smooth transition to university life, and to bring you into the university community.

The DMU community is based on two-way communication, and there are a number of ways to listen and be heard while you are here.

The students' union is there to represent you at university, and you can run for office in one of the executive positions, or just get involved with the sports clubs and societies.

A student and faculty representative scheme allows you to get your voice heard at both faculty and university level, and programme level feedback surveys provide effective feedback that allow you to have a say on your course. In your final year you can take the National Student Survey, an external survey asking about your whole university experience.
