Financial benefits

Competitive pay

Our aim is to attract and retain highly skilled employees. This is why we regularly check that our salary bands are competitive within both higher education and commercial sectors.

Each role falls within a grade on the ‘single pay spine’ and appointments are made according to the particular skills, knowledge and experience you bring to the role. Salary bands are advertised and, with very few exceptions, we appoint at the bottom of the scale with annual increments being paid each year.

Senior staff remuneration details are provided to relevant candidates.

Generous pension schemes

There are two main pension schemes operating within DMU, both of which offer excellent benefits, all employees have access to a scheme relevant to their role.

The Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) is open to academic staff and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is open to support employees. Both schemes have automatic membership with the opportunity to opt out and DMU pays the balance of the cost of providing your benefits.

You will receive further details of the relevant scheme in your induction pack.

Tax incentive schemes

Childcareplus

We operate a Childcare Voucher Scheme through an external provider. Employees may be eligible to give part of their salary in return for savings in national insurance and tax, with savings of £1,195 (depending of level of tax paid).

Cycle2work and CyclePlus

These two schemes enable DMU employees to access to a cycle-to-work scheme  which enables them to access any bicycle (and safety equipment) from one of the approved suppliers.  This is operated as a salary sacrifice scheme.  To find out more, please see the DMU Rewards portal; https://www.salary-plus.co.uk/dmu|.
