Professor David Wilson

Professor David Wilson is Professor of Public Administration, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law.
Business and Law has been placed highly in university league tables for several different subject areas during his time in charge of the faculty and he has overseen many successes.
Biography
Professor Wilson’s major area of teaching and research is public sector management, notably local government.
After completing his BA (Hons) at Warwick University in History and Politics and BPhil in Political Science at Liverpool University, David returned to Warwick and worked as a tutor while completing his PhD in politics.
He moved to De Montfort University (DMU) in 1971, in the days when it was Leicester Polytechnic, and was promoted to Dean from the position of Head of the Department of Public Policy in 2002. He was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor in January 2011.
David has authored many books, including: The Quango Debate (Oxford University Press) with F Ridley; Local Democracy and Local Government (Macmillan) with L. Pratchett; Local Political Leadership (Policy Press) with Steve Leach; New Public Administration in Britain (Routledge) with John Greenwood and Robert Pyper; British Local Government into the 21st Century (Palgrave Macmillan) with Gerry Stoker; and has recently published the 5th edition of Local Government in the United Kingdom (Palgrave Macmillan) with Chris Game.
He has published numerous articles in leading academic journals and has also served as a member of two Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) panels.
On a personal level, David is a Canon of Leicester Cathedral and chairs the Diocesan Board of Patronage. He supports Stockport County Football Club and, after 30 years of playing cricket, spends many Saturdays in the summer wearing an umpire’s coat.
