Event Summary

Few issues of recent years have caused as much controversy for the Church of England as that of sexuality. But, while challenges continue, many LGBT Christians are finding ways to express all aspects of their identity within a church context and finding within churches a space that does justice to their lived experience as LGBT people.

Equally, the idea of ‘radical inclusion’ – the view that the established church needs to go beyond mere tolerance and truly understand the experiences of LGBT people – is gaining ground and challenging traditional approaches to sexuality and difference.

Join us for a discussion on these and many other questions led by a panel of experts who each have an important story to tell about their engagement with this issue. The event will include an open discussion and wider Q&A session with the audience. Refreshments will be available both before and after the panel discussion.

Panel Members:

Sarah Hagger-Holt - co-author of 'Living It Out: A guide for lesbian, gay and bisexual Christians, their friends, families and churches'; Methodist local preacher and coordinator of West Herts LGBT Christian Fellowship

The Very Reverend David Monteith, the current Dean of Leicester

The Right Reverend Dr Peter Selby, a retired Anglican bishop who disagreed with the 1998 Lambeth Conference resolution and in 2017 signed an open letter expressing opposition to the House of Bishops’ report on sexuality
