Both scientists and artists attend to things. But they do so in different ways. In this lecture I will spell out these differences, as they concern questions of method and methodology, experience and experiment, observation and objectivity, fact and truth. I shall show that while mainstream science continues to think of art as a medium for the communication of its own results, it is in fact art, rather than science, that is now leading the way in promoting a radical ecological awareness – an awareness that challenges the very foundations of scientific epistemology.
