The 2017 David Wilson Lecture will take place on 21st November 6pm (for a 6.30 start) and the guest speakers are Sir Peter Soulsby, the directly elected mayor of the City of Leicester; Nick Rushton, the leader of Leicestershire County Council and Heather Jameson, editor of the Municipal Journal.
The speakers will explore the tensions and collaborations between city and county government and how party political differences influence how councils work together and how greater local autonomy and freedom from the centre could see city and county economic ‘powerhouses’ develop. The event will be an opportunity to explore with two senior local politicians and one of the county’s leading thinkers on local government, the changes needed for local government to be able to govern as effectively as possible and the future of the devolution agenda.
Please aim to arrive at 6pm to ensure a prompt start at 6:30pm. Tea and coffee will be available from 6pm and nibbles and refreshments will be served after the discussion.
